The Kodiak Island area is home to many breeding migratory birds and our location offers the unique opportunity to see both ocean and woodland species in their adjoining habitats. With the long hours of summer daylight, birds are extremely active late into the evenings.
The woods and low shrubs around the lodge serve as breeding territories for songbirds, and Bald Eagles regularly relax in the trees bordering our shoreline and back lagoon. Our fishing vessel, "Dawn Mist", is a great platform for watching seabirds whenever we go out on the water, and our kayaks allow closer observation of birds nesting on the islands scattered around our waterfront.
We have started a "Life List" of the species we've seen in our area; we welcome your help in spotting new species and adding to our sightings!
